Fictional Zelda Movie Logo – July 2006

As you may or may not know, I am somewhat of a fan of the Legend of Zelda videogame series. I decided to look at one of the earlier logos used in the series, and re-created it (chips, and cracks included) in 3D. Once done, it felt a shame not to animate it somehow.

BBC Parliament Ident – August 2006

I had just finished some logo ideas for the BBC’s portfolio of TV channels. I decided to take the BBC Parliament logo design I made, and design animations and graphics for the channel’s on-screen appearance to go with it.

ITV News Titles – January 2006

When ITV announced that they would be changing their corporate logo, and re-designing their channels’ branding, I decided to dip my toe into the world of ITV, and design a new look for their news bulletins, as well as their studio.

This was a university assignment where we were asked to pick a subject from a list, which we would then work on finding a solution to the problems associated with it. I ended up choosing Noisy Neighbours and finding out the problems associated with them, before deciding on an advert to try to change behaviours.

Another year, another identity refresh. Grunge was coming in as a Motion Graphic/Graphic design influence, and so I started to adopt grunge like features, now I go further into that visual language but not so sparse and clichéd as before.

I seem to make a new ident for my work every year, and 2008 is no exception. This I think is my best yet, and has been designed from the ground up in HD. Please note that my rooftops ident makes a cameo appearance in the background!

This is a promo I made and submitted to Current TV. This one is a simple guide to explain how Current TV works. This one was so popular, it made it on-air, and was the first promo made in the UK to feature on the channel.

Forever Forward

This is a short ident I made and submitted to Current TV. The movement over the bridge represents the non stop pace of the world, and I included a tagline, showing how Current TV is keeping up with the pace of the rest of the world.

Current Pods

Following in a similar vein to my Current Cubes promo for Current TV. This one is a slightly more in depth look at not only how the channel works, but the process you go through to submit content and have it appear on-air.

After designing a new logo, it was time to make a new animation to use with it. After my previous Idents, where the environment would “form up” on screen, I wanted something simpler, minimalist and more sedate. I wanted to feature the softness of the logo’s form, and the soft red colour I used, so I decided to look at paint brochures, and I decided to construct a room, and feature a simple logo transition.

Top of the Hour

With rumours of a new look coming to Sky News early 2007, I decided to have a go at re-doing their Top of the Hour, Graphics and Titles. I had been told a rotating cube was replacing the logo, so I used that as a start, and worked from that.

Lower Third Strap Animations

I designed some new on-screen graphics to replace the existing ones.

These are some of them, with test animations and content.

Lunchtime Live Titles

Following from the headlines at the top of the hour, there are quick titles to give you the name of the presenter. As this is shown, a voice-over will say “This is Sky News – Lunchtime Live, with Kay Burley”

This is the second of the two Idents I made to brand my animation and 3D work back in 2006. This one was actually based on a photograph I took, and was purposefully grittier than my previous Train Station one.

Initially inspired by the new look brought to Sky One, with 3D scenes animating and forming on screen, I decided to make a couple of idents using the same kind of idea, but trying to add in more detail.

The first was to form-up a London Underground platform and then to introduce a ghostly train passing through.

Back in college in 2002, for our end of year project, we we asked to storyboard, design, and animate a short animation sequence, using some of the techniques we had been taught over the two years of the course.

This is an example of a moody opening sequence, with a focus on timing with the music.
